Voters asked to renew sales tax

A special election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, to address the extension of a 3/8 cent sales tax in Payne County.

If approved, the measure will simply renew a sales tax that was originally established in 1994. Funds provided from the tax are used to finance county government and programs.

Last week, The Journal discussed where the lion’s share (53 percent) of the tax revenue is used – roads and bridges.

Stillwater’s legislative delegation seemed to be taken aback by the very specific questions they faced last week at a reception hosted by the League of Women Voters and Friends of the Library.
