The winners of the Perkins City Flag design contest were recognized during the regular monthly meeting of the Perkins City Commission Tuesday.
Carina Malone, the winner of the contest, was awarded a certificate and a $100 savings bond in appreciation of her work.
Second place winner Randy Harral Bagby also received a certificate and a $50 savings bond.
In other business, the commission appointed Jed Banks to the Perkins Industrial Development Authority and voted to declare a 1997 Mercury police unit as surplus property, authorizing staff to accept sealed bids with a minimum of $1,100.
Meeting as the Perkins Public Works Authority, the commission tabled discussion of a new wastewater treatment plant until they receive an update from Meyers Engineering. The matter was rescheduled for Jan. 17 at 4 p.m.
They also discussed changing the trash collection contract with Allied Waste to allow for a change to once-a-week pickup with wheeled polycarts and automated trucks.
City Manager Pete Seikel said the number of garbage trucks driving on city streets is damaging them, and once-aweek pick-up would save wear and tear on the pavement.
This matter was also tabled until next month because a representative from Allied Waste did not attend the meeting to address the Authority.
This is part of the January 10, 2008 online edition of The Journal.
