County roads depend on sales tax

Payne County voters will visit the polls during a special election Tuesday, Feb. 14, to consider extending the county sales tax.
A 3/8 cent sales tax currently provides funding for county government. Eightyfive percent of funds generated by the tax are used for roads, the Payne County Expo Center, fire protection, extension, and other county programs. The remaining funds are budgeted to general programs.

Multi-Arts deal approved

The Stillwater City Council entered into an agreement that turns control of the Multi-Arts Center to Friends of Multi-Arts, a non-profit community group that will operate the facility and offer art classes and programs to the public.
The city has been pursuing what City Manager Dan Galloway calls “private/ public partnerships” for many of its non-essential services.
